In a series of 3 seminars,
Het Nieuwe instituut will explore The Progress Trap’s subject matter in more depth. On Thursday 22 May, in the seminar Unprogrammable Behaviour, guests including Rinie van Est will focus on the difficulty of controlling human action. Marketing algorithms are increasingly capable of analysing, predicting and eventually even steering people’s behaviour. How do we avoid becoming 100 percent programmable? And what does it truly mean to be human? Friday is Drones Day: in the morning, we will consider the significance of the huge increase in the use of drones in public space in times of war and peace. On Saturday, guests including Anab Jain van Superflux will join makers and researchers in looking beyond the “innovation horizon” and exploring the future through unusual, interdisciplinary and extreme scenarios.
