Preview Main Exhibition DEAF2014

DEAF2014 is a biennale for art and controversy where progress itself is questioned. The main exhibition The Progress Trap views innovation through a critical lens and displays works such as 75 Watt by Revital Cohen and Tuur van Balen, The Blind Robot by Louis Phillippe Demers, 3RD by Monobanda & DUS and Departure Boards to non-existing cities by Alicia Framis. Marks’ Standard Handbook for Mechanical Engineers says that 'A labourer over the course of an 8-hour day can sustain an average output of about 75 watts'. Revital Cohen en Tuur van Balen's project 75 Watt is a product made in China whose only function is to choreograph its own assembly. Cohen and van Balen documented the assembly of 40 of their objects in a factory in Zhongshan, China.
