Nam June Paik
The Korean artist Nam June Paik (1932 – 2006) is considered the founder of video art. He worked with a variety of electronic media and he experienced the rise of television which played an important role in his work.
Paik was born in Seoul, Korea, moved to Hong Kong and later to Japan, where he graduated from the University of Tokyo. In 1964 he moved to New York where he became world famous with his Opera Sextronique (1967) and TV Cello (1971), performed by avant garde cellist Charlotte Moorman.
During the nineties Paik reflects on the rise of internet. That is when Internet Dweller arises.
